2+2 pathway

An unconventional approach

The typical college experience lasts four consecutive years and ends in a bachelor’s degree. But at FIT, we divide those four years into two years plus two years.

Why the unconventional pathway?

Each of our two-year programs offers its own educational focus, awards its own Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree, creates its own career direction, and builds its own foundational study of liberal arts and sciences. Most students continue their academic studies immediately after earning their AAS and finish their bachelor’s degree in the standard four years. Others complete their AAS and opt to put their career-based degrees straight to work. Then—if and when they’re ready—they continue their studies at the time that’s right for them. FIT ensures that “2 + 2” always adds up to four years of dynamic, career-ready education.

HERE’S HOW IT ADDS UP:

FIRST 2

Your first “2” starts with picking a major

Whichever one you choose, it typically takes two years to earn an AAS degree. In certain FIT programs, students who enroll with enough previously earned college credits might earn the AAS in just one year.

SECOND 2

Next, you apply to a two-year bachelor’s degree program

Most students apply to either a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a major that is the same or closely related to their AAS program. If you choose to pursue an entirely different area of study, you may need additional coursework to meet the qualifications of the new major.
